Music Monday: “Burnin’ for You”-Blue Öyster Cult

Happy Monday Everyone!

Today’s Music Monday is a fairly old song, but there is a story behind this particular song being featured today.  The song for this week is “Burnin’ for You” by Blue Öyster Cult.  For those of you who watch the show Supernatural this song might sound familiar. This song is in the episode “Hell House” in the first season.  Oh, God, I have attracted the Supernatural fandom to my site…Not a bad thing. I do love the show and have been re-watching it starting at the beginning.  This particular song is one of my favorite songs from the first season.  Sorry people who love “Carry on My Wayward Son”, not my favorite from this season.  Overall, maybe, but not from season one.  I have been playing that song since high school and it can get a bit old at times.  Please do not start sending me death threats about it.  Back to this week’s song though.

What makes the song “Burnin’ for You” so special?  Well, quite simply it is that I love that song like nobody’s business.  First off, I, much like Dean Winchester, have a love for old rock music that one can blare loudly in the car and sing along to.  You know, like Blue Öyster Cult.  This song originally was released in 1981.  That was before I was even thought of.  It comes from the album Fire of Unknown Origin.  By the way Blue Öyster Cult is still around today.  For those of you who have never heard this song or do not watch Supernatural here is what it sounds like.

I am not entirely sure why I love this song as much as I do.  It might be that it was the first song by Blue Öyster Cult that I ever heard.  It also might have to do with that the band Shiny Toy Guns did a cover of it.  You might have heard that version as it was featured on a car commercial a few years back.  No, it was not for the Chevy Impala.  That would have been amazing beyond reason though.  The reason that Shiny Toy Guns is such a well loved band by me is that the two guys that founded it are from Oklahoma.  I do love my home state.

So, there you have it.  Hope you enjoy this song as much as I do!  Until next time!
