Music Monday: “Alles is Liefde”- BLØF
I hope that you all have had a great weekend! It was incredibly wet where I live. So, must of it was spent inside. Oh well, I have had the entire weekend off and that meant that I had plenty of time to get a lot of stuff done. However, it is back to posting time. So, let us get this thing back and going!
This song is sort of special to me in an odd way. For those of you who do not know, I am a polyglot. Please refer to the post here if you do not know what that means. Dutch is one of the languages that I speak. Dutch is interesting to me. I love speaking and listening to Dutch. One of my best friends is Belgian and when her father comes to visit we all sit around and speak Dutch. It is pretty fantastic. I could go on, but back to the song. The song “Alles is Liefde” is the theme song from a Dutch film by that same title. The title translates to “All is Love”. The band that performs this song is called BLØF. Paskal is the lead singer and I love his voice! You know, let me show you the video for this song. Paskal is so ridiculously cute with his pink guitar strap.
I must confess something to you all. This is probably my favorite song in the history of forever. I am serious. I could listen to this over and over again and never get tired of it. It has been on my iPod for years. The strange thing is that I had no idea that there was music video until Thursday! I am not joking! It completely slipped past me! I am really sad that it did too. In my defense though, the video was posted in 2009. That is a full two years after the movie and song came out. By that time I was happy and content to listen to it on repeat on iTunes and my iPod.
The video is amazing and with its simplistic and easy to follow storyline, even if you know jack about Dutch and have no idea what they are singing about, makes for a delightful video. It reminds me of the film Alles is Liefde. Also, I love Netherlands! It is so pretty there. I would also like to point out a little detail that many people will probably miss if you do not really know much about that part of the world. Netherlands is one of the wettest countries in Europe. Most of the country is either below, right at, or ever so slightly above sea level that at times I wonder if it will one day be reclaimed by the sea. The chances of that happening are slim because of the Delta and Zuiderzee Works. For those who have no idea what those are, they are the dams, locks, levees, locks, surge barriers, and sluices that have helped reclaim land from the sea and to protect existing land in Netherlands. They are beautiful! As odd as that sounds, for what they are, they really are amazing to look at. That is not the thing people miss in the video though. The thing most people will miss is that it is raining/has been raining all through the video. What does that have to do with anything? BLØF has effectively shown people outside of Netherlands what it actually looks like in Netherlands. Remember how I said that it is one of the wettest countries in Europe? It rains a lot in Netherlands. Also, because of all the water, it is very humid. So, if it is not raining, it is still damp. That means that when the trees and flowers are blooming they are all beautifully green and vibrant. That is why Dutch tulips are so pretty. Sorry, Turkey, Netherlands’ has better looking tulips in my opinion. I think this is a wonderful touch to the video. They just make the video so…Dutch. Like really Dutch and not just Dutch-like. Amazing!
The film Alles is Liefde is a romantic comedy. Normally I am not overly fond of sickly sweet romantic comedies. That is why I really do not like films on the Hallmark Channel. Sorry Mom. I am just not into those sorts of shows. There are not very many exceptions to this. This film is one of them. So, what is it even about? Well, the English version of the film is called Love Actually. Yep, this is the Dutch version. Complete with very Dutch traditions and not just a translation. It is wonderful. I do not care what time of the year it is, this film I will watch whenever I feel compelled to or if it happens to be on the telly. That has only happened once and I forgot what channel it was even on.
I hope you love this catchy song as much as I do!
Until next time!
