Music Monday: “Shake it Off”- Taylor Swift

Raise your hand if you are sick of Taylor Swift.  *Raises hand*  Sorry Taylor Swift fans.  She was cute when she recorded her first couple of albums.  You know, when she was country and not pop-country vomit.  I am just so sick of hearing about her fifty bazillion break ups and her people-were-trash-talking-me-so-I-am-going-to-sing-my-feelings-out moods.  Seriously, people are sick of hearing break up songs.  I know I am.  Okay, I get it.  Your heart was “broken”, but do you really need to sing about every single boy you have ever dated?  No!  What are you, in high school?  While the song “Shake it Off” is not a break up song, it is one of the songs that I am so tired of hearing.  It has been played over and over and over and over again on the radio.  Truthfully, I did not like it when it first came out either.  I thought it was stupid.  I am sick of hearing and actually, I would rather listen to Pharrell Williams’ “Happy” on repeat for an hour.  You all know how I feel about that song.

Then I saw the music video for it and could barely make myself sit through watching the whole thing.  I have been in dance lessons since I was a little kid.  I know she is just trying to act like she is having fun, but why do it in classical ballet dress?  Are you trying to insult the art form?  I do not particularly take kindly to that.  Sort of like I do not take kindly to people dressing in American Indian regalia to dance around and act like idiots if they have no idea what they are doing and what the dance/regalia represents.  Sorry, that is one of my biggest pet peeves.  You can call your team the redskins all you want.  That does not bother me.  Women wearing Sioux war bonnets and dancing around on stage is one of the most disrespectful things I have ever seen and I take great offence to that.  That is my heritage you are making fun off.  Taylor also “performs” a few other types of dances in the video.  By perform I mean mocks.  Sorry, as a dancer, I hate this video.  This video is so offensive to me on so many levels.

In short, this song and video is an offense to my ears.  I am tired of Taylor Swift in a plethora of ways.  Frankly, I would not care at this point if she vanished off the face of this planet.  I also do not care if she happens to read this and writes a song about me.  Let her, I do not give a rats behind.  I will not be listening to it.  I probably will not be listening to anymore of her songs.  Just do the world a favour Taylor and either go back to how you sounded in your first couple of albums or just stop singing.
