The Culinary Torch is the Best Thing Ever!
I love to cook. I mean I cook all the time. Seriously, if you follow my Twitter or Instagram you will probably notice that I post pictures of the food I make all the dang time. While I have quite a few kitchen gadgets, one of the most recent gadgets that I recently acquired is a culinary torch. That thing is the most awesome kitchen gadget that I have purchased myself! Let me tell you about this tool that everyone needs.
A while back I purchased an Oggi Crème Brûlée set on Amazon because it was cheaper to get the set than to get purchase the culinary torch on its own. This set came with four ramekins that, while I didn’t need them, I got them anyway since they came with the set. The torch with the set uses butane. Keep in mind, this stuff isn’t for children. This sucker has a child-proof lock on the dang thing. While the directions for filling the torch itself with butane is a bit confusing, since I know how to fill things with butane I didn’t really have a problem. That being said, this is simple to use. Click down the child-proof lock and press the light button. That’s about all you do. You can fine adjust the flame so you can use it for numerous things in the kitchen.
So, what exactly can you do with a culinary torch? Glad you asked! While most people use them for caramelizing sugars or lighting dishes served flambé, they can be used for other things too. I toast marshmallows with it. I’m not joking! I made mama and I pizzelle s’mores the other day with it. Check it out.
That top right picture with the flaming marshmallows, those were set on fire with the culinary torch. Awesome! I can have s’mores any time I want. Want some lightly toasted marshmallows for your chocolate a la taza? You can do that too! Want your candied yams that nice golden brown on top quickly without having to worry that you’re going to burn them in the broiler? The culinary torch is perfect for that. Too cold out to roast the vegetables on your kebab, if you’ve already cooked the meat, on the grill outside and you don’t have an indoor grill? Use the culinary torch!
There are so many things that you can do with the culinary torch. It’s the tool that I didn’t know that I needed until I got it. I mean, I could do a lot of it before, but this makes everything so much easier. Also, I don’t have to worry about turning on the stove to toast marshmallows and risk them dripping onto the burner. Overall, I would recommend getting one if you don’t already have one.
